Add to TwitterJust a quick note before I begin: the 20th-22nd will be scheduled posts since I’ll be out of the office until Friday. They’re a little shorter and mainly reference outside sources. Look for more original content next week!

What would you do if your family could no longer afford for you to attend school? Find a do-it-yourself guide to making a wind generator and build it successfully enough to provide electricity to your family – at the ripe old age of 14? Maybe the rest of us wouldn’t be this ambitious, but William Kamkwamba from Malawi decided to go all-out. With the help of a tractor fan, shock absorbers, PVC pipes and a bicycle, Kamkwamba built his wind generator and became known as “the boy who harnessed the wind.”

You can find out more about William and his story at http://www.off-grid.net/2009/10/10/the-boy-who-harnessed-the-wind/ .
